Happy Freakin' New Year
Well, I managed to pull my head out of my ass and have a lovely time on NYE. We went to the Cataclysmic Megashear Ranch and had a very fun, low key night with friends and fun people... no crowds, no obnoxiously drunken strangers (and only one rather out of control friend, but he was mostly easy enough to avoid), no cheesy music... no cheesy anything. It was great! It was a stone soup kind of party, people brought stuff and set it up, no real planning, we just all added what we could. That afternoon someone had posted that they were going to bring a karaoke setup, which lit a fire under my ass and inspired me to call around to find out if real music was also being planned... turned out it was but that they needed speakers (or else it would have all been through ONE crappy stereo speaker, ugh!) So I offered mine. The BF was cool with this because it wasn't the entire setup, and also because it was a party we'd been planning on going to anyway, and would definitely enhance the party for all of us. Plus he hates karaoke!

We had help carrying it all upstairs, which was very cool. I actually ended up spinning twice as there were only 3 of us who'd brought music and it was pretty early when the last DJ finished, so I went on again briefly, then set up some CDs and just let it track through. They never actually got the karaoke set up, but it had served the useful purpose of getting me to bust out my gear (which also got me to spin, and I actually had a great time doing it.) Then I was very very tired and took a nap there... we got a few hours of sleep before heading home to get ready for the annual hangover brunch thrown by another good friend.

That party was chock full of people we knew, and it was fun talking with everyone and watching the kids play. Candace and Toad were there with their baby Clara, and she's bigger than the last time I saw her, though still at the completely helpless, doesn't really know what's going on stage. Cute as a bug's ear! And so good to see them. Had a soak in the hot tub (along with an interaction that started off challenging, but ended well) and finally left as the party was ending, after helping clean up. Then we came home and had one more bottle of champagne and chilled out. Sweet! And a lovely start to the year. I sure hope this year is better than last year... there is definitely room for improvement! I like the "fresh" feeling of newness at the new year, it seems hopeful. Of course it's never a totally clean slate, but it is a milestone, and a chance to reflect on the past and the future.

Later this evening there is another party (also with a hot tub... there was one at the Ranch too, though I never got in. I'm liking this 2004 party trend!) which I'd offered to spin for a while back. I've lined up a couple other DJs so hopefully I won't be behind the decks all night... I do enjoy having a nice long set, but BF's got me trained not to spin all night... and I've really gotten into having time to hang out and socialize at parties, so I've become more proactive about getting folks to bring CDs and spin. I'm giving myself the day off of the sorting project so I won't get all grumpy and out of sorts before tonight, instead I'm doing just regular tidying up (and updating this. Nice to have something positive to say for a change!) Going to try to call Roya again... we've been playing phone tag and I really want to catch her sometime soon!

People I wish lived closer:
Roya, Mishaal, Brittany, Ellen... I miss my friends! Brittany lives closest but I still don't see her very often.

OK, I have gone on long enough! Happy Freakin' New Year!

I'm feeling: hopeful hopeful
I'm hearing: Thinking about my set for later...

I'm going to be relocating to the Bay area later this year, and am looking to make friends in that area that are into the dance music scene. Mind if I add you?

Sure, feel free. I didn't realize that you're supposed to ask before adding someone... most of the people whose journals I've listed as friends are folks I know, but I've also been adding interesting posters as I've discovered them, without asking. Had no idea that was bad netiquette. D'oh!

Let me know when you'll be around and I can point you to some resources for finding parties and events.

There's no hard-and-fast "etiquette" to the adding thing, I just like to announce my intent and why before adding someone out of the clear blue. :)

Thanks! I reallu appreciate that!

Oh, and I'll be adding you too... if that's ok. Although I have to say that golf club thing is pretty disturbing, so maybe I'll wait til it's further down the page. The poker playing monkey almost makes up for it though (too bad no photos!)

Go ahead, no worries at all.

The Evil Golfer should drop off soon (if this bugs you, you may not wanna look at much more of Chacks' work, featuring suicidal pigs and child-eating bears and what-not....)

I wish there were monkey photos too! AT least we got the Elvis Preacher....
