so, I stayed home from burning man for the first time since 1996 (13 years, yo!) and it actually worked out really well... much to my surprise!
we decided to throw a party after repeatedly being asked where we were camping at a recent sale. answering "Oakland" inspired us to actually create a theme camp right here at home!
we had neighbors, friends, and even a few randoms stopping by from saturday afternoon until monday - and then after a brief nap on monday afternoon we got the last wave (aka the backwash)! I can hardly express how awesome this was.
people brought music, food, art supplies, costumes, hoops and all sorts of wonderful goodies. it truly lived up to my desire of having a theme camp in my living room!
as on the playa, we started slowly. the first intrepid partiers arrived on saturday afternoon as we were putting the finishing touches on the place. BBQ was had (freakin' AMAZING BBQ from E&J, no less!) lights were hung, music was played, catching-up was had!
at some point on saturday evening, I looked around and realized that we had actually achieved *critical theme camp mass*! w00t w00t! my concept for the party had actually been realized. now, hopefully we can *maintain* for the rest of the weekend!
we watched the burn on our video projector (streamed from burningman.com) and I must be scrupulously honest and admit that I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad not to be out there in the wind with the alkali dust being sandblasted into every pore. we also got to hear a bit of JC's set on BIMR which was a fun bonus!
we also had delicious grilled cheese sammiches, made and served by a HOTTIE french maid! plus, blender drinks both good and evil! awesome DJ sets from Pink (aka Titanium DJ) Buhnny, Jovino, and Benjy! I tended bar for hours, and then the fabulous Polly took over for me. I even took a short nap, and woke up as the party continued to rage - very burning man. finally Jovino and I collapsed into our comfy, cozy "first camp" as the sky was getting light on sunday morning. what a great burn night! never mind that it took them until 11pm to even light it. we were having a blast!
sunday morning came sooner than any of us expected. as soon as I awoke, I heard voices outside the bedroom (aka "first camp") door. o noes! I realized I was getting what I'd asked for, so I'd better go out and be a hostess in my own theme camp!
I was sorry to see that Dennis and Stephanie had already taken off, as I was really hoping to get the chance for a tarot reading but the night before had proved too chaotic. I did get the chance to read for two of my friends before the weekend ended... but, I'm getting ahead of myself.
so, sunday. by the time we emerged from "first camp" we could see that the wonderful Helper Bunnies had already been hard at work tidying and beautifying the Bunnydome. it was really clean! how fabulous!!!
we couldn't have done it without you. really. not half as well, anyway!!!
so we gradually awoke and brought out coffee, tea and mimosas. our neighbor arrived with tea and delicious home made ginger scones to the delight of all present!
the saturday pj party crew thinned out, as the sunday crew gradually began to arrive. sunday turned out to be "old home day" - awesome sauce! a few brave souls went out for provisions, as the rest of us hunkered down for the traditional sunday Classic Rock Pancake Brekky. yay!
we rearranged our camp furniture, hooped, and hung out. people came over with art supplies and drew and created, while others played board games or just chilled out on the couches. it was very theme camp!
sunday night was also very "sunday night on the playa" - old home night, not so crazy but just chill and staying up because we were just having so much fun. one of our neighbors stopped in, fresh off the playa, to close the loop of our little event. a perfect moment! once again, the party went really late, and was really fun.
I'm not sure if I'll ever go back!
