thank god THAT's over with!

I just spent the most miserable day I can remember in some time. We'd gotten to bed at the relatively (for us) reasonable hour of two. I woke up around 7, came downstairs, did email for a while and had some tangerine juice, then went back up to bed. I was fine, if tired from the short sleep I got. I went back to sleep, and awoke hours later, absolutely miserably ill. I got up, made tea, and quickly returned to bed realizing there was no way I'd be able to keep it down. Uh-oh. Finally around 4:30 I woke up again and forced myself to get up (figuring that, if I didn't I'd be awake at 4am - joke's on me!)

I tried to drink some juice and failed utterly (not the acidic tangerine, the nice green odwalla.) Jovino brought me a puke bucket and my favorite blanket and tucked me into the couch with the heater on, then took off for SF for a much-anticipated visit to see friends who'd moved into a new place and gotten a fabulous kitten. I was in no shape to join him, but I'm glad he went.

After throwing up several times, I took a long shower (since I couldn't even sip water at that point and had a pounding headache from the dehydration) and settled back onto the couch. I tried watching bellydance videos, but they made me nauseous (something about seeing the abdominal undulations really got to me.) I couldn't read since nearly all of my current unread books are about cooking or food and the very *thought* of food made me dangerously queasy. Finally, I decided to cruise around on beatport looking for gems. Jovino was gone from about 6:30 until about midnight, and during that time I found 5 tracks I wanted, one of which was unavailable and one of which I'd have had to buy a whole album of mostly clunkers to get. D'oh! But at least it didn't make me feel more ill than I already did!

My dear friend the Drunken Housewife recently suffered similar symptoms for an entire WEEK, so of course I feared the worst. Honestly, I don't know how she survived! (I'm glad she did - she is one of my very favorites. You should check out her witty, erudite, and always entertaining blog if you don't already read it!)

I had visions of spending xmas day like this, sending Jovino off on the Amtrak to visit his mom and huddling on the couch with only my puke bucket, the internet, and the crazy cats to keep me company. I also had visions of cancelling tomorrow's movie night, so as to be sure to avoid passing this horrible bug off to any of our friends. But, I gradually started to feel better, eventually drinking a whole cup of the green juice, some tea, and even a lovely mug of miso soup. WOO HOO!

Today was ASS-TASTIC. However, there has been a lot of good in my life recently! Good things are happening with bunnywarez which I'm sure I'll be writing about soon. AND, I just found out that my best girl Mishaal is going to be here in May, for Tribal Fest! She's teaching a class, and I'm looking forward to taking the class, and also having some time to hang out with her. I totally LOVE this girl! She's a great dancer (and I seriously mean *great*) and a wonderful person. I have not seen her in YEARS so this is a really big deal for me. Also, there are a ton of classes I want to take, but if I'm going to take that many bellydance classes over 3 or 4 days, I'd better start conditioning NOW or I'll be too sore to drive myself home from Santa Rosa at the end! I've been wanting to be more active and get back to dancing, and now I have motivation - plus a deadline! That always does the trick for me. My good friend Lane sent me the info on this, and she is another one who I do not see often enough, so this situation is just filled with Win. Maybe by next year I'll be in good enough shape to try for a performance slot!

Before this, I'd actually made a couple of (weak) attempts to get back on it, but haven't had much luck. I tried an instructional video, but just wasn't feeling it, and I did a little half-hearted yoga but never hit the groove. On Wednesday when we were putting up the tree, I ran across my favorite movement meditation book and I think THIS is going to be the key! I always do best with these things when they come from the inside out, so I'm going to be doing one day of at-home practice and one day of going to the gym, just to get started. I plan to expand this to two days of both but best not to try too much too fast. I am a big believer in taking big things in bite-sized chunks - that way I don't overwhelm myself, and I am more likely to keep at it and get where I am going this way, instead of giving up or losing steam.

OK, back to bed with me!

ZOMG, CHARD!!!

I'm getting ready for our movie night (tonight at 8!  Come over!)  But just had to pop in here with a word about CHARD.

I have been so intimidated by this stuff in the past.  A friend told me that I could just make it up the way I make my spinach and garlic sautee' that I love so much... slice up fresh garlic, heat olive oil in your biggest skillet (I have a huge one I bought just for this stuff) and as soon as the color starts to change, toss in the greens - washed, but not dried.  Add some salt and cracked black pepper, and the result is a simple braise - we added teh veggie snausages for extra flavor and protein.  Delicious!  And ZOMG good for you.  :-)

I is a happy bunneh!

(Come to movie night!)
