O M G (or, the tail of the encontrado perro)
so, about half an hour ago, the phone rang. it was some of our favorite neighbors. turns out they'd found a lost dog and were trying to find a place for it to stay overnight. since they have four cats and no catproof room, they asked us. I got all strict and told them this was a foster situation only and that we too had four cats (not all of which get along, as it is) and they said that someone would surely be looking for this sweet, tame and very friendly small dog. ok, I said. then, they handed me the dog (actually she really wasn't all that into handing the dog over, which said a lot in itself). so this doggy is small, and so far chill and well behaved. he may be part peke, not sure what else... but pure adorable and sweet.

so now we have a little crate set up out in the shop, and we'll be going out for walkies before bed.

wish me luck with this! I love dogs, but we really are full up with the 4 cats right now...

[edit] so I went out with a leash to take him out for walkies and he absolutely cowered in the crate, not wanting to come out at all. I got him out and just held him on my lap for a while. he calmed down and snuggled into my lap. this doggy is totally used to people, and if he was abandoned rather than lost, his former owners are FOOLS, because he is so sweet, calm and well behaved! so I never made him go outside, I figure he can make it til morning and if not it's only an old towel and a chunk of fleece - but I bet you he makes it just fine. he seems really civilized.

we're going to make posters in the morning, and I bet his family will quickly claim him. I'll be sorry to see him go.

yes, the poor sweet baby... it's been looking more and more like re-homing him is the best thing. I mean, if your dog had been lost since Thursday, would you not have at least called the SPCA about him? well, they have the info there - so, yeah.

the good thing is that this doggeh is just about the most adoptable animal I've ever met - he has only a little training, but he is *so* eager to please that training him is going to be such a pleasure for his new peeps (and for him too - he is aching to please, if only he knew what to do!) plus, he is freakin' adorable. so, he will most likely be going to his new home on Monday.

nice icon BTW! I saw a Puli the other day and was all "I know what kind of doggy that is!" ;-)

Thank is so sweet of you all

to let the poor lost puppy stay with you all instead of the pound... while waiting for his owners to find him....

He will have a better time with you all.

Re: Thank is so sweet of you all

it's beginning to look like we are his halfway house from a life where he never really got enough attention no matter how hard he tried (not like any of us humans have experienced that, lol) to a new life with a doting family and a house with a yard. they have neither kids nor other pets, but from what I have seen of his behaviour, Poqui would do great in a multi pet household (or one with kids) because he is so chill and not at all pushy or aggressive.

thanks for the kind comment! my friends who found Poqui said they went to animal control which was closed but had some sort of "after hours drop box" for animals - I mean, I guess it's better than just turning the animal loose, but - realy, a drop box?!

anyway, like I told them, they found the right sucker (er I mean animal lover). it's actually in my blood, since my mom was always the one to take in the strays, the helpless, the "problem animals"...
