thanks so much! can you believe Marcus Pacheco moved into my building?! not only is he really talented and skilled, he's also a super nice guy. he did my previous one as well... I still do not really have a postable photo of it but trust me, it's awesome too. he's so great with the color and shading!

how have you been? we're 99% sure to miss burning man thi year (stupid money) but might make it to gig-decom... and definitely ON for Twigsville. hopefully our paths will cross one of these days. ;-)

That is a really beautiful tattoo, one of the best I have seen in a long time.

thank you. Marcus is really good... as in, been doing it a long time, very talented, his work is in coffee table books good. I really lucked out in getting the opportunity to book some of his time!

it's funny, I haven't had a new tattoo in a while, and now I'm really glad I haven't, since his work is so much better than pretty much anyone else I've ever had work on me. (then again being 40 and female, time's a wasting! I better get 'em now while my skin is still nice.) %-)

that is lovely. We missed the bunnies at the opera tonight!

why thank you. we missed you guys too, but between the weather (which I know turned out nice but looked dodgy all day) and the schedule (get there two hours early for a three hour opera) *and* the fact that it is better for me to just keep this thing uncovered as much as possible (especially while it has gooey neospirin on it) we just kinda gave up. like I said yesterday, the group of peeps was the biggest draw (and hardest to pass up.) but hopefully I'll see you soon! I want to do a GIRL NIGHT, possibly next weekend...

That is rather lovely. ^_^ What's the significance and inspiration behind the design?
djmermaid From: djmermaid Date: June 6th, 2009 07:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
thanks! it's a khamsa, a protective symbol from the middle east - very very old. it's kinda representative of my years as a bellydancer... but the personal significance (especially of this particular khamsa) goes much deeper. it is also spelled "hamsa" or "hamza" - translating a calligraphic language to romanji letters is an imprecise art at best. ;-)

the cool thing is that Marcus picked out some music he thought I would like to hear while he was working on me - and it was an album that was a favorite of mine, with many memories attached - and was from the time that I got the piece of jewelry that the tattoo is based upon. so that was a real treat (and a distraction from the stingy sensation of having my skin poked with a sharp needle about a bazillion times, lol)

thanks, sweetie! he's an awesome tattooist. it's based on a silver pendant made by Sulyman el Coyote from Sirocco, which he based on an old traditional design. I just love it, all the hearts!

thanks so much! I'm really happy with it - my only complaint is that I can't ever really look directly at it - lol!

Twins!

Now we are related in ink!

You didn't tell me you were getting a hand of fatima tattoo? I would think you would have mentioned it since that is my newest piece as well!

Yours is really pretty - love it! Congrats!

what a stunning and unique version of a hamsa! it's very modern yet has that ancient element to it. Beautiful work on both the design and the actual inking.
